Wasn't sure who to credit on this track so I put all three down. Produced by Nike Boy. Damn Damn.
"Gun Fever" by Hieroglyphics is a new track off the upcoming project, The Kitchen. Check out their unique perspective about the highly active gun control debate currently in the mist.
"We are not promoting guns or violence, but simply expressing our thoughts on the issue and encouraging further dialogue."
Oh and it looks like Opio is coming back to town mid May. Further details will come.
This month just keeps on giving with yet another well-crafted track featuring four members of the Skull Control crew (If I am not mistaken). This particular track is brought to you by Soy The Organic Hispanic and Akword Actwrite. It features Wake Self with the third verse all laced over a GeoMTRK beat.
First time submission from PhatJ. The track "Keep It Up" is featured on his Homegrown Mixtape which dropped a few days ago. You can view the video below and you can also cop the mixtape over at datpiff.com.
Andy "Wake Self" Martinez took us on a therapeutic journey with The Healing Process. Some of us familiar with his skillfulness can attest that the Albuquerque-based emcee has stamped his name in the Southwest hip-hop. Wake Self's release secures that statement even further as he shares with us what he calls "healing music." The remedial concept can be felt throughout the entire album.
The album opened up with a dope intro featuring artist local and national artists you may of heard of (Pep Love, Opio, Equipto, Blesinfinite to name a few). You can find other special guests like DJ Def-i, L*Roneous, Akword Actwrite, DJ Young Native, and Speed One. A couple tracks to note in my opinion are "Call of Life," "Don't Sleep," and "Brand New" but the entire album listen is a good dose for you. Stream and download The Healing Process below. Make sure to keep up with Wake Self at WakeYoSelf.com or on Twitter @WakeSelf.
"Things will get better if we put love and consciousness into what we’re going through.”
Thanks in advance to Adrian Gomez, Albuquerque Journal Staff Writer, as I took a few of Wake Self's quotes from his article for the purpose of my review.
This is one of the most random leaks I have ever witnessed. Lord Quas is back at it with not only a new leak but a new album coming June 18th, 2013. The album Yessir Whatever is entirely produced by Madlib and includes 12 tracks recorded over a roughly 12-year period. Peep the cover art and the first leak "Planned Attack."
eMotionz called slaughtered although the Rahney wasn't that great either. It was still entertaining to say the least. I am trying to hit up the next UBR event in June.
Kayohes sent this my way earlier today. Excited to see what the end product will be but from the small sample we got it seems like it will be dope. Keep up with the two at Kayohes.com, VisceralView.com, and of course, right here.
N' the House Records Presents and J. Casp present the newest tape called HOB (Hear On Bizness). This the second mixtape from the local emcee and it contains major improvements both lyrically and production-wise. Its got that Pro Era type of sound. Anyone else feel me on that one? A couple tracks to note are "Trace Ya Steps," "Throwback Thursday," and "Sophomore Year."
Just caught up with this track today which is track 18 off of Chasing My Dreams. The song is dedicated to his son Chrishan. I love these tracks in which you dedicate it your family.
Hahaha... The homie Kron Jeremy rolled up a trippy stick for his latest video "Daytripper" in which he rocks some freshness for y'all. The track was produced by Tap Uno and the video production is by Adrenaline Truth. Kron Jeremy Sucks.
The Vapors is a 5 song EP celebrating that one holiday we had this last Saturday. Zion I is currently working on an LP slated for a release this upcoming Fall.
TheFrshPrnts presents a short film on The Flood of The Dezert Banditz Crew. The interview shot by Paul J. Lucero, live footage shot and edited by Tommy Borunda.
In my opinion, Juicy J has been putting out some decent music since distancing himself from Three 6 Mafia and focusing on his solo career. Juicy J will make his way back to Albuquerque for his Stay Trippy Tour which also features A$AP FERG. The show is April 24th over at the Sunshine Theater. All Ages. Tickets can be acquired here. Stay trippy my friends.
Like I said, this weekend is packed with celebration. Also on Saturday, Murs will be one of the special guest for this years Fiestas at UNM. This is a free show at Johnson Field. This years event will have two stages of music, human hamster balls, a mechanical bull, awesome cultural acts, tons of booths, vendors, food trucks and other activities. The Fiestas start at 2pm at Johnson Field.
If you got some time during this jam-packed weekend, head over to Hometown Heroez over at 3100 San Mateo to celebrate their one year anniversary. Hometown Heroez is a local business selling apparel and they wanted to share their success with you with live music, food, and discounts on their goods. DJ Kayote, DJ Wae Funky, and special guests will be in the mix. Check the flyer.
"Can we go back, this is the moment
Tonight is the night, we'll fight till it's over
So we put our hands up like the ceiling can't hold us
Like the ceiling can't hold us
Can we go back, this is the moment
Tonight is the night, we'll fight till it's over
So we put our hands up like the ceiling can't hold us
Like the ceiling can't hold us"
It seems like yesterday when I hosted Mic Club 7 but I guess its been about 2 months. This year is just flying by. Anyways, the homies over at Dezert Banditz are back at work with the 9th edition of Mic Club, NM's Hip-Hop competition. Peep the competition for the upcoming event.
Mobb Deep will be in Albuquerque April 19th for an exclusive 20th year anniversary show. The show will be at Sister Bar. Joining Mobb Deep is Hezekiah to open the night with Dj Dozer holding down the turntables. Hosted by Speed One. Tickets are available here. Yikes. Better save up for this one.
"I make music for the people, not the people who pay me."
"Brand New" track and visual from Wake Self. The song will be featured on his upcoming project The Healing Process. The song includes production by DJ Audiyo and cuts by DJ Young Native. The Healing Process drops April 25th if you weren't aware already.
Bandwidth No Name takes you down to the "Spliff Shop" which is a parody track for Macklemore's super hit "Thrift Shop." I assume most of you can assume what kind of spin Bandwidth No Name puts on this hit. This is FUCKING AWESOME...
Check out this piece by Creative ABQ and Hakim:
"Hakim Bellamy is Albuquerque's inaugural Poet Laureate (2012-2014), and a nationally recognized poetry slam champion. In early 2013, his first collection of poetry will be published by West End Press. For three consecutive years, he has been named "Best Poet" by Local iQ and the Weekly Alibi. He is the co-creator of the multimedia, hip hop theater incubator Urban Verbs; and facilitates performance-writing workshops for schools and community organizations across the country."
"On April 11th, 2013, composer-musicians John Maestas and Asher Barreras put together a nonet for a one-night only performance at the Outpost Performance Space in Albuquerque, New Mexico. One of the compositions of the evening was arranged by John Maestas, and was a rendition of Kendrick Lamar's "Sing About Me." Maestas invited Albuquerque Poet Laureate Hakim Bellamy to produce some original lyrics for the composition. Here's what he came up with, for those who asked to see a transcript the night of the event. Live video of the nonet's live performance to be released soon."
I don't know if this will top last week's show but Burt's and its weekly hip-hop night continues with quality artists. This upcoming Wednesday, April 17th, Burt's Tiki Lounge welcomes Ariano from Long Beach, California. He will be in the spot with Thoughts Arizen along with resident DJs Young Native and NTox. Free as always for the 21 and over at Burt's Tiki Lounge. Oh, and make sure to view the post I put up from Pawz One and Ariano a few days ago ("The Luv").
Gaddo SpekkTakk, who recently opened at the Wax show, has also presented us with an 8 track mixtape coined The Intermission. The tape is available to download for free over at Datpiff.com. This should hold over you Gaddo fans until the next project that should be a full length album.
I know I am quite late on this one (approximately 6 months to be exact) but I felt it was still worth the exposure as it was a good listen. Nice tracks on this mixtape and I in particularly enjoyed track two which is the Burque version of Mur's "L.A." Press play and enjoy. Volume 2 coming soon.
I have been one to cope with Mezcal or some type of tequila in the past but that stuff is only a temporary escape for me. Shout out to that little worm located in the bottom of that Mezcal bottle.
Check out this track from Who?Lee "Concrete Jungle." Who?Lee is a producer out of New Mexico and if you didn't notice, I just posted a track which was produced by him below.
I lost my Coachella ticket. Not really but here is a track by Kosha Dillz in which he composes a ditty of what would happen if he lost the golden ticket to one of world's most coveted music-themed events.
The homie Haseeb The Futuristic sent me an email the other day containing his latest single and video for "HaterADE" which will be featured on his upcoming EP The Futuristic. You can download the audio file here. I suggest you check this out.
First off, I want to congratulate Skata Jay and his family as he was blessed with gift of his newborn daughter. Although I have only met him a few times, I just wanted to send out my blessings. With that, Skata Jay releases such a fitting video describing his fondest memories as a child. What is your vivid memory from your childhood?
Los Angeles emcee, Pawz One, lets loose on his latest visuals off Face The Facts which is to drop soon. Accompanying the track, "The Luv," features Ariano of Technicali Sound. With the Default production serves as a perfect complement to this stand out track. The footage captures each rapper's city as a point of inspiration, each takes a turn sharing the respective spotlight that 16 bars provides. Directed by Forty Ounce Gold, the video serves as proof that hip-hop is in good hands.
The UrbanVerbs crew, which consists of Carlos Contreras, Hakim Bellamy, and Diles, will be holding a FREE Digital workshop for the youth this Friday and Saturday. The workshop will consist of writing, reciting, recording, and production. The work includes areas such as poetry, music, audio, video, journalism and more! This is a great opportunity for those wanting to effectively construct their talents. The workshop will be at the computer clubhouse at the West Side Commuity Center. See below for the hours. Here is the link for registration: http://www.bernco.gov/KRS
I really should be sharing this music to y'all more consistently but time seems to get away from me as of recent. This track falls into the category of Pop but it was produced by Santa Fe's DJ C-darth and just an overall good track. Nominated for the 2013's NM Music Awards for "Best Pop Song."
DJ JaySin, who happens to be the most consistant producer in Albuquerque, lets an instrumental go for free and recommends you to do whatever you want with the track (sing on it, rap on it, or bump it).
This release appears to be a short of compilation of Johnny Black's work (about 9 minutes worth). Regardless of my accuracy, it is an ill listen. Enjoy.
"Los Lobos" is the next single from First Flight's debut album Fallacy Fantasy which dropped late last month. This was one of my March purchases and it was sure worth it if you listen to Hiero. The two will be in town next Wednesday at Burt's Tiki Lounge for their Stress Free Tour which also features Equipto, Z-Man, L*Roneous and more. Can't miss this one.
Walt DeeZ is back to work with the release of another single and the visual set to complement it. You can view the video below and if you insist, you can download the audio file here.
The album PB&Js by J.Lately and J.Good will be dropping for free on April 15th. It features Co$$, Grynch, and Alex Carbonel, and includes production from Jansport J, Tellapath, Nefarious, Snaggletooth, Enrichment, and E.C. Until then, we can hear the first single, "Runnin' On Empty" featuring Co$$.
A couple of quick posts before I try to go to bed again.
Track number five off Wisened Disciples' latest self-titled project gets the visual treatment. If you like what you hear, you can download aforementioned album here.
Mos Def or Yasiin Bey, as he is formerly known as, has been in the studio with Mannie Fresh with plans to release a collaborative album. This is first leak I have stumbled across from their forthcoming album, OMFGOD. Thoughts?
